Ocean Jasper : only on the Ambolobozo Peninsula of Madagascar
Ocean Jasper is a rare mineral, mined in only one place in the world, the Mine of Marovato on the Ambolobozo Peninsula of Madagascar. It is called Ocean Jasper because the deposits are part of the coastline, and can only be reached by boat and removed only during low tide.
Orbicular Jasper was first discovered in 1922, but its specific location was lost causing it to vanish from the mineral world until it was rediscovered in the early 2,000’s. It was given its trade name Ocean Jasper because it’s located along the shoreline in Madagascar and can only be mined when the tide levels are low.
