November 12 : Maore Day 2024 in Comoros
In the Comoros archipelago, especially on the island of Mayotte (Maore in Shimaore, the indigenous language), Maore Day, also called Mayotte Day, is a major public holiday. Every year on April 27, it happens.
The day honors the formal placement of Mayotte under French protection by the native Andriantsoly chieftain in 1841. The foundation for a long-standing connection with France was established by this agreement, which ultimately resulted in Mayotte’s designation as a French overseas department and region—a distinction from the other islands of Comoros.
