Madagascar : The 7th Edition of the “Festival des Baleines 2025”!

The next edition will be held from July 12 to 20, 2025, with a preview planned in Antananarivo in May 2025.

Since 2015, the date of its first edition, the WHALE FESTIVAL and its historical partners, the SAINTE MARIE – CÉTAMADA TOURIST OFFICE – and the DRÔLES DE DAMES association have been the forerunners of the tourist promotion of Sainte Marie, leading to the highlighting of the Madagascar destination, through the organization of a popular and media-friendly national event. The WHALE FESTIVAL offers rich and varied activities, often copied but never equaled in terms of their achievements. Today, the WHALE FESTIVAL, for its 7th edition, will still remain the flagship of the “Malagasy event media” by offering innovative activities linked to a national and international communication plan.

The Festival des Baleines is centered around the migration of humpback whales, which travel from the Antarctic to the warm waters of the Sainte Marie canal to give birth, mate, and perform mesmerizing courtship rituals. Visitors can witness these majestic creatures up close during organized whale-watching tours, making Sainte Marie one of the world’s premier spots for observing these gentle giants.

Humpback whales are known for their acrobatics, often breaching the water’s surface and slapping their fins in a display that is both awe-inspiring and scientifically significant. These behaviors play a key role in their mating rituals and communication. For many visitors, seeing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
