Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark – Where Earth’s Oldest Stories Come Alive

Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark is an extraordinary destination where ancient geology, lush nature and legend meet in perfect harmony. Located off the northwest coast of Malaysia in the Strait of Malacca, this archipelago of 99 islands is a tropical paradise of white-sand beaches, emerald mangroves and forest-covered mountains.

As Malaysia’s first UNESCO Global Geopark, Langkawi protects some of the oldest rock formations on Earth. In the Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park, rocks more than 550 million years old form the foundation of one of the planet’s most ancient rainforests. Dramatic limestone landscapes shape the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, home to rich mangrove ecosystems and remarkable biodiversity.

Visitors can explore secluded beaches such as Datai Bay, glide above the rainforest on the iconic SkyCab and Sky Bridge, or discover the mystical Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park, where a collapsed cave shelters a serene freshwater lake surrounded by tropical forest and rare marble formations nearly 300 million years old.

Langkawi is a living museum of Earth’s history, a sanctuary for wildlife, and a place where natural wonder inspires awe, respect and sustainable exploration.
