Australian meat pies or Meat Pies are an iconic dish of Australian cuisine. They are sometimes even called the “national dish” of Australia. They are also often served to students for school lunch and they are a must during footy matches. The meat pie recipe is quite simple. These are hand pies, usually made of a baked pastry, filled with simmered beef and sauce, and covered with another pastry. The meat pie is such an important cultural dish that the country’s Food Standard Code requires that it “contain a minimum of 25% meat”.
