Chitrapataka: Maharashtra’s First International Marathi Film Festival Set to Celebrate Regional Cinema on a Global Stage

Chitrapataka’, Maharashtra’s inaugural International Marathi Film Festival, will be held from April 21 to 24 at the P. L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy in Mumbai, India. Organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Film, Theatre and Cultural Development Corporation, the festival is a major initiative to promote Marathi cinema internationally.

The event will feature 41 Marathi films released within the past five years, spanning genres such as social drama, rural life, history, environment, women’s issues, children’s cinema, and comedy. In addition to film screenings, the festival will include five seminars, two special interviews, and two hands-on workshops, including one tailored for cine journalists. An exhibition celebrating Marathi film heritage will also be part of the festivities.

Attendance to Chitrapataka is free, but registration is mandatory, either online or on-site at the Kala Academy. Registration dates and ticketing details will be announced soon.

This festival not only offers a platform to celebrate Marathi storytelling and cinematic talent but also reflects the government’s broader vision of elevating the state’s cultural landscape. As part of his future plans, Minister Shelar aims to organize 1,200 cultural programs statewide, further expanding access to the arts across Maharashtra.
