Duqm: Oman’s Next Frontier for Sustainable Tourism and Urban Innovation

Oman has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Duqm into a model of sustainable urban living — a new hub for tourism, business, and green innovation. The initiative, launched within the Special Economic Zone, supports Oman Vision 2040, which aims to diversify the economy while protecting the environment and empowering local communities.

Spearheaded by Tatweer in partnership with Al Abrar Real Estate, the project will integrate residential, commercial, and tourism spaces with a strong focus on sustainability and responsible tourism. Duqm’s pristine coastline, desert landscapes, and mountain views will be developed with care to preserve natural heritage while offering visitors authentic experiences rooted in local culture.

More than 80% of contracts are being awarded to Omani small and medium enterprises (SMEs), ensuring that local businesses and communities benefit directly from the region’s growth. The project also promotes green industries, including renewable energy and eco-friendly construction, positioning Duqm as a leader in low-impact, sustainable tourism.

By combining innovation, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, Oman is setting a new benchmark for responsible destination development in the Gulf — one where tourism growth and sustainability advance hand in hand.
