Loi Krathong in Phuket: A Magical Festival of Light and Tradition
Experience the magic of Loy Krathong in Phuket on November 15th and 16th, 2024
Known for its breathtaking beaches and exciting nightlife, Phuket comes alive with spiritual introspection and peace of mind during the annual Loi Krathong Festival. This festival, which honors the river spirits and is a time for letting go of the past, is a beloved tradition that is observed throughout Thailand.
Thailand’s Festival of Lights, or Loi Krathong, is held on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month, which often occurs in November. The term “Loi Krathong” means “floating basket,” and refers to the custom of floating elaborately adorned baskets, or “krathongs,” over the water in remembrance of Phra Mae Khongkha, the goddess of water. During the festival, one might give thanks to the water spirits and ask for their pardon for any harm done during the year.
