Madagascar : The Complete Makay Crossing

 

 

Located in the southwest of the country, the Makay Massif is one of the most isolated regions of Madagascar. This is a hike for travelers who aren’t afraid to leave civilization behind and spend days hiking in the great outdoors.

The landscapes are extremely varied, featuring canyons, mountain ridges, dense forests, high-altitude lakes, rivers, caves… In short, there’s no time to be bored! Still unexplored, the Makay Massif is an incredible refuge of biodiversity. Many hikers who participate in this hike have a good chance of crossing paths with lemurs, fish eagles, and other endemic creatures.

A unique mineral labyrinth, a rocky desert crisscrossed by water and home to green valleys, the Makay Massif stretches over 4,000 square kilometers. It’s an extraordinary terrain for nature lovers. Lemurs, fossa, reptiles, amphibians, chameleons, crabs, fish, as well as a large number of birds of prey and birds live here. Venture into this magnificent Eden, between wild canyons and narrow valleys overlooked by table-top mountains, riverbeds, and forests.

All the travelers who participated in this hike experienced, along the way, sensations and emotions shared during the evenings spent camping with their teams of porters and friendly guides.

This hike is ideally suited for 2 to 3 weeks.
