Madagascar: unique rock paintings discovered on the island reveal its incredible ancient history
The discovery of cave paintings, depicting flora and fauna unique to Madagascar, calls into question the complex origin of the island, shaped by ancient influences from East Africa and Borneo.
Until recently, Malagasy rock art had only been identified at a few rare sites, and it featured only basic symbols. The analyzes carried out in this new cave, the results of which are shared by the researchers in The Conversation on December 12, 2023, are therefore particularly instructive. They reveal, in particular, Madagascar’s ancestral relations with the Egyptian, Ethiopian and Afro-Arab worlds, as well as with the immense island of Borneo.
