Oman’s Al Wusta Wetlands Earn Ramsar Status: A Win for Responsible Tourism

 

Oman has officially added the Al Wusta Wetlands Reserve to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance, making it the third Omani site to receive this global recognition.

With its pristine mangroves, endangered sea turtles, and rare bird species, the reserve is a biodiversity hotspot — and a powerful example of how nature conservation and responsible tourism go hand in hand.

Home to over half a million migratory waterbirds and endangered marine life like the Arabian humpback whale, Al Wusta is now more than just a sanctuary — it’s a sustainable tourism destination that supports eco-friendly travel, scientific research, and environmentally sound investment.
