Reunion island, the Tévelave forest : A well-preserved primary forest

The word “Tévelave” would have a Malagasy origin meaning “The big forest”. It is located in the heights of Avirons upstream of the village of the same name. It was once a refuge for runaway slaves nicknamed “the maroons”. It offers hikers magnificent trails that wander through well-preserved endemic fauna and flora. It is lined with picnic kiosks, some with breathtaking views, ideal for an outdoor outing! Lovers of lunches on the grass can also stop at the picnic area in the village of Tévelave. It is equipped with a snack bar serving good Creole cuisine and a pétanque court.
