An unprecedented partnership between island regions to fight against invasive species

An unprecedented partnership between island regions to fight against invasive species Invasive species have impacts not only on biodiversity, but also on the economy and health. They can destroy endemic species, hinder agriculture on the land they colonize, ravage crops, reduce water resources or even transmit diseases (e.g. chikungunya, dengue fever). Inter-regional cooperation in this area thus makes it possible to reduce the costs of the fight against invasive species and to accelerate the circulation, exchange and pooling of information, experiences and good practices.

At the heart of the project, the network on invasive species in the South-West Indian Ocean Islands (WIO-IAS) is expected to play a crucial role in the dissemination and sharing of information and experiences, as well as in the mobilization of partners and institutions likely to cooperate.
