Bali : Nyoman Gunarsa Museum
Dedicated to classical and contemporary Balinese painting, this museum was founded by Nyoman Gunarsa, one of Indonesia’s most respected and beloved modern artists. The vast, three-story building houses an impressive array of ancient works, including stone and wood carvings, architectural antiquities, masks, puppets, and textiles. Many of the classical paintings are done on beaten bark and are among the oldest surviving examples. The old puppets still seem expressive despite their great age. The upper floor is dedicated to Gunarsa and his depictions of traditional life, such as Offering.
The museum is located 4km west of Semarapura, near a bend in the Gianyar Road; nearby are mannequins dressed as police officers at the foot of a large statue.
