In 1775, Nawab Asaf-ud-daula of Avadh initiated the renowned Residential complex after the court shifted from Faizabad to Lucknow to host British visitors. Under the rule of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan (1798-1814), the main residency building was completed. As years passed, more structures were added, turning the complex into an exclusive European settlement.
