Reunion Island: Vacoa Festival in Saint-Philippe
The Vacoa Festival is one of the major events of the Wild South and even of Reunion Island. For about ten days, Saint-Philippe comes alive and becomes the “capital” of the region. The vacoa (the plant) is honored as well as other typically local products such as palm kernel, vanilla and many others. The event generally welcomes around 80,000 people: in other words, almost one in 10 Reunion Islanders comes to celebrate the vacoas as they should be, with on the program: entertainment, shows, concerts, the election of Miss St-Philippe (Miss Vacoa), etc … In 2024, Saint-Philippe organizes the 31st edition of the Vacoa Festival from August 9 to 18 at the Place des fêtes de Basse-Vallée.
