Singapore The Peranakan Museum

The Peranakan Museum reopened its doors to the public on February 17, 2023. The building has been completely renovated to offer a redesigned experience and better showcase a collection of exceptional objects. To this end, the museum has worked closely with the region’s Peranakan communities (Arabs, Chinese, Chitty, Jawi, etc.) to explore their distinctive customs and practices.

The word “Peranakan” has the root “anak”, which translates to child, or locally born, in Malay. The term was used by Malay and Indonesian communities to refer to other communities (Chinese, Indians, Europeans) who called their area home over the centuries and blended their heritage with the rich local culture.

A visit to the museum immerses you in a rich and unusual universe
