The green heart of Borneo: an oasis of biodiversity unique in the world
Originally a simple forest reserve, Gunung Palung, Indonesia is now a massive national park that protects some of the most important tropical rainforests on the planet and the wildlife they support.
Gunung Palung is located in the swampy southwest of Borneo, in the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan. For scientists, the remoteness of the park and the restrictions imposed on tourism are advantages: Gunung Palung is a real time capsule of what the island was like for millennia.
