The Zanzibar International Film Festival honors the art of cinema
More than 3000 films from across the globe were submitted for consideration in this year’s festival.
Established in 1997, the Zanzibar International Film Festival stands as a prestigious annual event dedicated to showcasing films from diverse regions, promoting cultural exchange, and honoring the dynamic world of filmmaking. This festival, also known as Festival of the Dhow Countries, continues to enthrall and unite audiences worldwide through the magic of cinema.
Set to take place in Zanzibar from August 1st to 4th, 2024, the 27th edition of the Zanzibar International Film Festival holds the distinction of being the largest cinematic gathering in the region. The festival’s primary objective is to elevate awareness and underscore the significance of cinema in Africa and the encompassing Dhow Countries’ region, spanning South East Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, the Persian Gulf, Iran, Pakistan, India, and the Indian Ocean Islands.
Featuring an array of diverse programs such as Children, Women, and Village Panoramas, Dhow races, women’s beach soccer, Difficult Dialogues, panel discussions, Music and Arts Platforms, Public Forums, and Outreach screenings, the festival attracts over 200,000 attendees annually, cultivating a deeper admiration for the art of cinema.
This year’s festival theme, “Rejuvenation,” serves as the cornerstone for the films, workshops, Panoramas, events, and Difficult Dialogues, all thoughtfully crafted to resonate with and draw inspiration from this central theme.
