Responsible travel in Thailand
Thailand is renowned for its tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples featuring Buddha statues. Thailand has many faces: bustling Bangkok, a veritable open-air museum, the ancient Kingdom of Siam or the paradisiacal islands of the south.
The tradition of hospitality and Thai cuisine, recognized as one of the world’s tastiest, will enchant you.
A trip to Thailand is incomplete without visiting Ayutthaya, the second Siamese capital after Sukhothai. Optimally located on the Gulf of Siam, equidistant from India and China.
Ayutthaya has been a bridge between the East and the West. Founded in 1350, it was destroyed in 1767 by the Burmese army, but imposing remains such as the reliquary towers or the vast Buddhist monasteries bear witness to its past glory.
Bangkok is another must-see destination when traveling to Thailand.
This city, which has received many superlatives, has the longest name in the world: Bangkok, city of the gods, residence of the Emerald Buddha, great capital of the world chiselled with nine precious stones.
It is full of skyscrapers in thriving business centers, floating markets, royal palaces, and ancient temples. Among them, Wat Pho, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the city, houses a large Buddha lying on his deathbed, in the process of accessing parinirvâna.
Wat Phra Kaeo, located within the grounds of the Royal Palace, contains not only the great emerald Buddha, but also all the buildings located within the grounds of the sacred architectural complex, populated by fabulous and hybrid creatures such as the nâgas, snakes with human heads, and the gaduras, giant bird-men, mounts of the god Vishnu.
In Bangkok, the Erawan Museum, located inside the mythical three-headed elephant, the Airavata, preserves Thai art and crafts and presents them to younger generations in a cosmogonic and tripartite architecture, ranging from the world of Nagas, to the world of humans, to the interior of the elephant, to enter the Tavatimsa paradise.
